10pm Dinner at Le Bernadin.
Tasty and tasteful. We had Brice Champagne. An Gewurts with the oyster amuse-bouche. I had the tuna and foie gras, (divine!) escolar (light and subtle, slightly underwhelming after the tuna) and lobster (sweet, chewy texture). (thus fulfilling my fantasy of New York Lobster, although I still have to find a way to Luke’s Lobster on Amsterdam)
My appraisal is the food was that it was excellent but (and gasp!) would it be wrong to say that I have had better food? The service was impeccable and the sommelier was spot on with her choice considering our exigent parameters (Paul – I want to spend around $250 on a Pinot maybe Sonoma (which I thankfully managed to talk him out of- French wine seemed to be their specialty); Cecelia – “I don’t know from where and what kind but I want a lean, complex and savoury red), she came up with a 2007 Domaine Bruno Clavelier "Les Hautes Maizières” Vosne Romanée and it was nothing short of divine. Maybe we drank it a little young, I felt like it had a bit more to give, even in a year or so but it went well with the light, subtle dishes we had ordered.
