There may be no winner between two rivals. In the great battle of “Melbourne vs Sydney, which is the most awesome?” (Well, according to a recent Lonely Planet review it’s ah… Brisbane, WTF?!) an elegant analogy can be found in the 2 Movidas. The menus are distinctly different but the dining experience is kind of the same, they are both comparably excellent.

In close proximity to the Sydney Movida is Jazushi. This restaurant takes two independent and wholly excellent things: jazz music and Japanese cuisine, and combines them to make a kind of half-arsed dining experience. It must have seemed like a good idea on paper. Every time I walk past it, it is full of patrons, eating delicate raw fish in a cramped dining room jostling elbows with musicians and microphones.
